Behind the Desk: The Weekley Collection Arrives at Pops

A group of small coins can hold a surprisingly wide stretch of American history. The Weekley Collection recently arrived at Pops Change Exchange with ten pieces now moving through photography, identification, cataloging, and review.

The group includes Seated Liberty half dimes, silver three-cent pieces—often called trimes—and a 1908-S Indian Head cent. Together, the coins reach from the early 1850s into the opening years of the twentieth century.

We are using “Weekley Collection” to keep the coins connected to the group in which they came to Pops. As more history is documented, it can be added carefully. We will not invent an ownership story or claim a longer provenance than the information supplied to us supports.

Early silver in a very small size

Several of the Weekley coins are half dimes. These were silver five-cent coins, smaller than the later five-cent nickel. The group includes Philadelphia and New Orleans pieces from the 1850s, including examples with arrows beside the date and an 1856 issue without arrows.

The collection also includes silver three-cent pieces dated 1852 and 1853, along with one whose date is no longer fully readable. These tiny silver coins were introduced during an unusual period in American commerce and remain a distinctive type for collectors who enjoy early federal coinage.

Each coin is being handled as its own item. Photographs, visible wear, date details, and any mint mark are reviewed individually rather than copied across the group.

1856 Seated Liberty Half Dime, No Arrows

This raw 1856 half dime has been recorded with a Fine-level description and is offered at $65. The listing includes photographs of both sides so collectors can study the date, design, and visible condition.

1908-S Indian Head Cent

The 1908-S Indian Head cent carries the San Francisco “S” mint mark and has been recorded with a Very Fine-level description. It is currently offered at $75 with obverse and reverse photographs.

More of the collection is still being prepared

The remaining Weekley coins are not being presented as available until their records are complete. Some need further review, pricing, or listing preparation. Keeping those pieces private while the work continues helps us avoid showing unfinished information as if it were a final offer.

As additional pieces become ready, they can move from the same Coin Catalog record into the Pops Change Exchange shop or another selected sale channel. Their photographs and collection connection will stay with them throughout that process.

Are all ten Weekley coins for sale now?

No. Two coins are currently listed. The others remain in cataloging or review and will not be described as available until their listings are ready.

Are the grades on these coins certified?

No. The Weekley coins discussed here are raw coins. Any grade wording is a current catalog description, not a third-party certification.

Will every Weekley coin be sold the same way?

Not necessarily. Each coin can be directed to the Pops Change Exchange website, an auction, or another appropriate channel after its review is complete.
